Allergy Covers Not Just For Dust Mites
By Mike Krause of The Allergy Store
For decades allergy sufferers have covered their mattresses, pillows, duvet and box springs with specialized "Allergy Covers". These covers were designed to keep the allergens from dust mites away from the person while they slept. You see, dust mites live, breed and die in your mattress. It is their favorite place to live since it is soft, dark, damp and very close to their food source, dead skin cells. The first allergy proof mattress covers were made of a heavy rubber, effective but very uncomfortable to sleep on. From there they have gone from vinyl to specialized non membrane fabrics. Much more comfortable and just as effective in keeping the dust mites and their allergens away. Now there is a new threat that some of these allergy covers can help with, Bed Bugs. Bed bugs have been around for as long as man has I guess. Bed bugs are these small, oval, brownish, flattened insects that belong to the insect family Cimicidae. A Bed bug feeds solely on the blood of animals and humans and like dust mites their favorite place to live is in your mattress. Most people associate bed bugs with old run down hotels and other seedy places. This is no longer the case. We have helped some of the finest hotels in the country deal with this problem. Rich and not so rich, people are having a problem. Researchers believe in increase in bed bugs is due to the increase travel. You can bring the unwanted guest home in your luggage, clothing, purchased items and almost anything else. Once you have determined you have bed bugs the first thing you need to do is a top to bottom cleaning of the area you found them in. Severe infestations will require the services of a professional extermination company. You will need to cover your mattress in an allergy proof cover. These covers keep the bed bugs that may be in you mattress in the mattress so they can not get to you. At some point they will die of starvation. They other thing it does is keeps anymore from getting in the mattress. Now some companies tell you any of their allergy covers will work for bed bugs. Not true. The non-membraned fabrics do not offer the same protection as the covers that have the urethane membrane. The bugs can't chew through the membrane. Also it is very important that the allergy proof cover has a very small zipper an that the zipper ends lock. The Allergy Store carries a line of allergy proof mattress covers designed with the help of pest control experts that is certified to be bed bug proof. These covers covers stop bed bugs and dust mites. Even if your not allergic to dust mites or have bed bugs, putting allergy covers on your bed is a good thing. They will keep everything cleaner and fresher which will help them to last longer. With the price of a good mattress running $1000.00 plus, the better care you give it the longer it will last. Good thing now days.

Awesome expert advice. Most people wouldn't know the difference between non-membraned and membraned covers. Keep up the great work!
